"THE ROLL UP"

This is a shared journal coming live (read: drafted and scheduled) from the space before the question gets asked. Notes on intimacy, attraction, and the quiet moments that almost happen and still change you. Not a film newsletter, just a shared journal for people who know the feeling.

this is a short film about the moment before you ask, when two people feel something at the same time, read the room, read each other, and decide whether anything is going to happen

Set over the course of a single Chicago night, You Smoke? follows a fleeting connection between two Black men as attraction unfolds quietly, through proximity, timing, and what goes unspoken. The film is grounded in observation rather than exposition, allowing small gestures and shared space to carry the weight.

The project is rooted in Chicago nightlife and the social rituals that shape how we find each other, who feels safe to linger, and when a moment opens or closes. It’s less concerned with outcome than with presence, how intimacy can live in a glance, a pause, or a question left hanging.

This page is a place to step inside the world of the film. Whether you’re here to follow along, support the project, collaborate, or simply sit with the feeling, you’re welcome.
